Here are some helpful terms and words to help you better understand your eyes:
- Cataracts – a clouding that develops in the crystalline lens of the eye or in its envelope, varying in degree from slight to complete opacity and obstructing the passage of light.
- Ectropion – turning out of the eyelid (usually the lower eyelid) so that the inner surface is exposed.
- Entropion – involves the turning in of the edges of the eyelid (usually the lower eyelid) so that the lashes rub against the eye surface.
- Eyelid – a thin fold of skin that covers and protects an eye. With the exception of the prepuce and the labia minora, it has the thinnest skin of the human body. Spreads tears on the eye surface to keep it moist and comfortable.
- Glaucoma – a disease where fluid pressure inside the eye increases causing irreversible damage to the optic nerve and loss of vision.
- Hyperopia – commonly known as farsighted, longsightedness or hypermetropia, is a defect of vision caused by an imperfection in the eye
- Myopic – commonly known as nearsighted, is a refractive defect of the eye in which collimated light produces image focus in front of the retina when accommodation is relaxed.
